Reader Q&A: “Is Smaart overkill for my home studio?”
Question: “I’m building a small mix room. Should I use Smaart or just stick to a cheaper ‘Room EQ’ app?”
The Answer
Smaart is like a high-end microscope. If you just want to know “is my room bassy?”, a cheap app is fine. But if you want to know why it’s bassy, you need Smaart.
Smaart’s Impulse Response mode will show you if your bass buildup is a “Standing Wave” (which you fix with a trap) or a “Speaker-Boundary Interference” (which you fix by moving the desk). Most home studio apps only give you a frequency graph; Smaart gives you the Time and Energy data needed to actually fix the room, not just EQ the speakers.
Smaart is excellent on its own, but most users find they get much more out of it after some structured training. That’s where our seminars come in.
