Relative SPL: Monitoring the “Difference”
In complex festivals, you might have one mic at FOH and one at the “Stage Edge.” Smaart v9 allows you to create a Relative SPL Meter.
The Benefit
This shows the *difference* in dB between the two mics. This is incredibly useful for ensuring that the stage volume (the band’s backline) isn’t “overtaking” the PA at the front row. If the Relative Meter shows the stage is only $3\text{dB}$ quieter than the PA, you know you have a clarity problem that no amount of FOH EQ will fix.
